Communicating the soft-skills of a candidate has always been very difficult, if not impossible to convey through traditional screening methods. The only method employers currently use to really get an idea of the candidate’s soft-skills is a face-to-face interview. This leads to many more interviews than are actually needed, resulting in more time and resources spent in the recruitment process. With OVIA™ we address and help recruiters solve that problem.

  1. The Solution - OVIA™

OVIA™ is an Online Video Interview Application that allows recruiters to send video interview questions to candidates over the internet. Candidates answer these questions using a webcam (a webcam can be sent to the candidate if she/he does not have one). The video answers allow candidates to showcase their language ability, communication skills and motivation, complementing the traditional written application form or CV. Once setup, the process is fully automated, requiring recruiters to only choose the questions for the interview, enter the candidate’s email and wait for the candidate to submit the answered interview.

 

 

 

 

    1. How Does OVIA™ Work?

  1. The Recruiter chooses the questions they wish to ask the candidate. Then they send a video interview link to the candidate in an email generated by the OVIA system:

  1. Recruiter logs into OVIA™

  2. Recruiter chooses questions to include in the interview for the candidate.

  3. Recruiter is able to record new question or uses questions already saved for the candidate interview.

  4. Recruiter enters email address of candidate and submits the interview.

 

  1. Candidate receives an email which includes the link to their individual interview in OVIA™:

  1. Candidate watches optional recruiter introductory video.

  2. Candidate goes through test question to make sure equipment is functioning correctly.

  3. Candidate is presented with the video of the first question.

  4. After the question he/she is given a preset amount of time to record the answer.

  5. Candidate is presented with the video of the second question etc.

  6. Candidate submits video interview.

 

  1. The Recruiter receives a notification that the candidate has submitted the interview:

  1. Recruiter logs into OVIA™.

  2. Recruiter watches video interview.

  3. Recruiter has the option to invite colleagues to watch the interview.

  4. Recruiter can contact the candidate to arrange a follow up interview.

The following case study will highlight how using OVIA dramatically reduces the number of man-hours recruiters need to invest in the screening process.

 

A recruiter needs to filter 30 CVs from qualified candidates down to 5 for face-to-face interviews. Traditionally he would screen these candidates using a phone call or first round interview, which would require the following resources:

As the table highlights, a large number of hours needs to be invested by recruiters to coordinate and conduct numerous early stage face-to-face interviews, as well as the transport costs of the candidates. Telephone interviewing also requires large amount of man-hours to schedule and perform at a time that is convenient for both recruiter and candidate.

 

With the OVIA automated video interviewing platform recruiters can lower their candidate screening costs by 58% when compared with telephone interviewing and 85% against face-to-face interviewing. The recruiter could save between £275 and £1100 in this one instance.

 

 

 

When looking at the time saved, the above graph shows the increasing returns to scale when using OVIA to screen large numbers of candidates. Automated video interviewing saves 75% of the time spent with phone interviewing and requires 85% less recruiter man-hours than face-to-face interviewing.
